On Love, In Singleness Pt. 1

I've been meaning to write this entry for a long time. I've actually written versions of it a handful of times and erased them. I decided today it's too long for one entry, so here goes part 1.

Today our race relations project discussions were "gender caucuses", one female discussion and one male one. Surprisingly (not) the guys discussion focused around sex. It was another chance to talk a little about where I'm at, and not being able to relate to the experiences of others, going to bars solely to find girls to sleep with. It was sad, but also kind of crazy, to hear quite candid revelations about how empty, meaningless, and unfulfilling a lot of that has been for others.

I tend to get kind of intense reactions from non-Christians about my dating life.

"Whoa. You've never had sex?" "You haven't kissed anyone in college?" "You gave up dating (however temporarily) for God?"

Yes. We're crazy. Sadly, I wish we were crazier. I think all aspects of our lives should be this radically different (or peculiar as my friend Jason would say) to unbelievers.

"Whoa. You make you own clothes to not support sweatshop labor?" "Whoa. You sold your stuff and gave away the money?" "Whoa. You don't watch/read/buy/eat/look at/talk about/say this?" "Whoa. You plan on doing that with your life?" "Whoa. You talk/act/live like you mean it?"

So I was able to hang out with some old friends of ours tonight... they're married... they have West Virginia accents... now they're living in NC... of course your name came up as we discussed Jville folk. And Tricia's here too. Too bad you can't teleport yourself here immediately. Rock on post pt. 1
