No Heroes Here

there are no heroes
there are no great ones here
we're only fools
who know that we are fools

there are no saints here
there are no guiltless ones
we're only those
who know that we've been rescued

I'm just a broken down, messed up person like everyone else. I'm tired of compliments. And more tired of people thinking I'm special. Please don't. It messes with my head. This blog is named what it is for a reason. The lyrics are from a Justin McRoberts song, and they ring true for me.

No one is a hero. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. If Jesus responds to being called a 'good teacher' by saying "why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone" then how much less should it be said of me?

Jesus calls the ordinary, the weak, the lowly, the despised, the foolish (1 Corinthians 1:27-28). When I am otherwise, something is wrong. Woe to me when all men speak well of me, for that is how our fathers treated the false prophets.

Blessed am I when men hate me, when they exclude me and insult me and reject my name as evil, because of the Son of Man.

Well Sir,

I find myself again, appreciating your words. Their simplicity carries a strong message. One of humility and praise. They are familiar words because I spoke them to Elisa several times last year. I would like to talk to you more about this.

Kenny, apparently this computer won't let me message you on facebook, thus a blog message. #1 True dat on your note about us truly not being worthy. #2 I went climbing in the Alps this weekend with a family from the church! Was thinking of you and Evan as I belayed and was happy to climb past my usual 15 ft threshold of comfort. Unfortunately my borrowed shoes were so tight that my toes were bent at the knuckles and I felt like I was climbing in China with bound feet... #3 Do you have any good ol' living-the-faith books you'd recommend? I'd like to bribe myself to finish reading 'The Petit Prince' in French before I buy a book in English on amazon. I found a great cheap English library here that unfortunately has a lot of excuses for not having any religious books. Since I can't peruse Borders and judge books by their covers, I could use your recommendations. Thank you! Hope you're having a good week!
