Debriefing was both tremendously fun and quite helpful to my thought processes. I’d been looking forward to it, but couldn’t predict the blessings of sharing experiences such as: comparing how-much-rice-can-I-shove-down incidents with Heidi, telling my aerobics story, hearing about Becca getting stitches in Mexico (on a trip for fun, not even an FH trip), and Jim fighting off hordes of men who wanted to dance with him at Club Cadillac in Kigali, Rwanda by doing the sprinkler and the can opener. Intense. (but not quite like camping)
I finally got to meet the legendary Ben Homan, president of FHUS who shared some encouragement and explained a little about overarching FH structure. People slowly started to catch planes home, which was sad, but then, we were already missing David, Caleb, Aaron, Rachel, Mark, Mollie, and others who had left already or never come back to Phoenix. I got officially debriefed by Sean and Nick first, and then by Bo and Julie. The conversations ended up being lots of fun, good for helping me think, and discussed a little about future plans and whether they might include FH (more on this when I have time to arrange my thoughts into a coherent blog entry). I also appreciated being able to answer questions with a point besides getting me to process, as they were pretty interested in our perceptions of the internship process and whether and how the Philippines could handle more interns. Sweet. (but not kissing, as the NCC youth tell me when I said ‘sweet’)
Chilling with Ben Borger for the night, then up early to get to the airport at 6 for my 8am flight. It seems strange that I don’t get back to PA til 5pm, but you lose 3 hours, and I’ve got a short transfer in Chicago. I think it’s going to be good, but strange to be home. Awesome. (but weird, hope I’m ready)
