A new year is here. I feel like they always sneak up on me. Clearly, as I'm writing abut New Years on the 4th. I'll probably still be writing 2008 on invoices until March. Nonetheless, I enjoy the transition. Both an opportunity for reflection and a fresh start. A chance to leave things behind and pick up new ones.
Yes, the Top 10 lists become overused. Yes, resolutions get ignored. But when else does our society pause to look back at where we've been or take a moment to consider how we could do better?
Thus, a look back at 2008 and (at a later, but hopefully not much later, date) a look forward to 2009.
2008 in numbers (you're just going to have to deal with my approximations)
0 - College classes taken.
1 - College degree earned.
Countless - Number of goodbyes I had to make while leaving PSU.
2 - Trips to Peru to work on the orphanage.
1 - Time I accidently got through Miami customs without being searched.
13 - Friends I got to spend a week in the outer banks with.
16 - National Parks visited on my amazing roadtrip with my sister.
9,000+ - Miles driven on aforementioned roadtrip.
6 - New wheel bearings for my poor car.
1 - New engine for aforementioned car.
8 - Kiva loans.
7 - New housemates, community members, and friends.
13 - Mice killed in DC.
120 - Nights slept in DC without a bed.
4,000+ - Photos taken.
1 - Wedding.
0 - Funerals.
6,307,200 - Breaths taken.
36,792,000 - Heartbeats.
Dozens - Books read, movies watched.
Hundreds - Conversations had, memories made, good times experienced.
PS
Looking back over the blog for reminders about the year was fantastic. Nothing like some good reflection. I highly recommend it. (Looking back over your blog/diary/journal/photos that is... though I suppose if you're a creepy stalker you can look over mine too).

i should probably ask you to include the "number of trees needed to offset my carbon footprint" to your list of 'by the numbers'.
hope the district is enjoyable.
