Yesterday morning I dragged myself out of bed at 7:30 to play racquetball with Pastor Aaron. At 7:45 I headed outside to grab my bicycle and instead of finding my bike I found a cut bike lock. My sleepy shock soon turned to the realization that I needed to run to rec hall to be on time.
I called the police in the afternoon, and despite being helpful (they had my bike registration and serial number), they weren't very hopeful. Unlocked bikes that disappear frequently show up again, victims of nothing more than late or drunk college students looking for a ride. Ones that get locks cut off get resold and never return.
I've been looking for ways to cut down on the amount of stuff I own. I have a disturbingly large amount of earthly treasure. If I'm heading overseas, it's doubtful the bike would've been coming anyways.
And one of the last things on my to-do list for home was to get the bike rack so that I could move back in one trip after graduation. Everything I have here will fit in the car except the bike. Wouldn't you know that I totally forgot?
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
